Which Division Should I Choose?
When registering for the baseball season, players will be assigned to divisions based on their league age. Some divisions may have age overlaps, so this guide will help you decide which level is best for your child. If you're presented with multiple options, consider factors like your child's experience and comfort level with the game to choose the division that fits them best. If you're unsure, you can always reach out to the league for further guidance.

Factors for Determining the Appropriate Level of Play
When determining the best level for a player, SCLL considers three primary factors:
-
Safety: The player is placed at a level where they are optimally safe.
-
Fun: The player is placed at a level where they will have fun and enjoy the game.
-
Skill Advancement: The player is placed at a level where their skills can be developed and advanced.

Player Advancement
At SCLL, player development is a top priority. We aim to ensure players grow and gain confidence in the lower divisions, with a smooth transition to the next level.
It’s important to note that players don’t necessarily move up after just one season. Each player develops at their own pace. Moving a player too quickly can lead to frustration, increased injury risk, and possibly discourage them from returning.
By allowing players to stay in their age-appropriate division until they’re truly ready to advance, they’ll become better players and more coachable when they eventually reach the Majors and beyond.
Play-Up Consideration Policy
Stanwood-Camano Little League offers properly registered players the opportunity to be considered for placement in the next level of play, commonly referred to as "playing up."
Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria:
Play-up requests are subject to league discretion and are not guaranteed.
All candidates must undergo an on-field skills assessment conducted by the League.
The League will evaluate requests based on:
Additional Considerations:
It’s a common misconception that players should only spend one season in each division. In reality, player development varies. Advancing too early can lead to:
Allowing a player to remain in their age-appropriate division until they are developmentally ready promotes stronger fundamentals and better long-term growth. These players are typically more confident, skilled, and coachable as they advance into upper divisions.
Player Evaluations & Drafts
Player evaluations are required for players entering the Minors & Majors Divisions and are typically held on back-to-back weekends in early February. During these evaluations, coaches and league-appointed volunteers assess players in preparation for the upcoming player draft.
-
If your child does not participate in the evaluation, they will be placed in the draft pool for the lowest division they are age-eligible for.
-
Eligibility for All-Stars: Players who do not participate in the tryouts are not eligible for All-Star selection.
